Progressive Web Apps

A strong mobile presence is becoming important for an organization to be noticed among the audience.

Many web developers are using Progressive Web Apps (PWA) to target mobile and desktop users without developing and maintaining a mobile app and website.

In this article, we will discuss what progressive web apps are and why it is considered as the future of the web by leveraging on its features.

What Is Progressive Web App?

Progressive Web App is an app-like website that uses modern web technologies to provide a responsive and app-like experience to the users. Progressive web apps are designed by combining the technologies of web design and mobile applications. PWA is mainly considered as web applications with progressive features and enhancement. Progressive web apps consist of three key components.

  • Website:-  Progressive web apps work seamlessly on all the browsers and are designed using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. In comparison to all these three Javascript plays an important role in making PWAs more interactive so that it can easily adapt to the various devices.
  • App Manifest:- It is the JSON files that are responsible for launching the progressive web apps in the web browser and the other device browser. JSON files define all the data and information like- app icon, name, description, etc. and provide access to work properly on the various devices.
  • Service worker:- Service worker is responsible for intercepting and responding to network requests. It uses the JavaScript code as proxies to serve your progressive web apps to users using the HTTPS server to keep your data secure.

Progressive Web App As The Future Of Web

A general question web developers often ask is that “whether PWA is the future of responsive web design or not”

Progressive web apps use responsive web design that can easily meet up with the expectations of users. It adjusts their font, size, and other icons easily adapting to the screen size of the devices. Although, there is no need to maintain any specific version for mobile and website.

Progressive web technologies are the future of the web because it is independent of any operating system and the development environment. PWAs are an approach that offers an App-like viewing experience to the users. Its easy adaptation to the various devices and adjust according to the website’s display makes it ready for the future.

Features Of Progressive Web Apps

Fast

Progressive web apps are faster as compared to native apps and web browsing. PWAs use the cached data from the web to start the application even without connecting to the network. This feature makes the progressive web apps extremely fast. The users are informed about all changes through status notifications.

Push Notification

Push notifications are a way to remind your existing user as well as new users about your product and service. With the help of progressive web apps, you can easily send them a notification. A well-crafted push notification can help you in increasing the engagement of users through your site.

Offline And Online

PWAs are designed in such a way that you can easily view the content of whether your device is connected to the internet or not. Progressive web apps provide you the best user experience even in the slow connection. While with the native Apps and web browsing this is not going to happen.

Accessibility

Progressive web apps feel like native Apps and are easily visible on the user’s home screen. A user can easily access the data anytime and from anywhere. PWAs can easily access the device’s functionality and adjust the content according to it.

Conclusion

Progressive web apps are the future of the web. We at Vibethemes are planning to develop Progressive Web Apps using the advanced JavaScript Application frameworks such as Angular, React, and many more to provide the best experience of it.

  1. Peter says:

Therefore, I assume the new WPLMS version 4.0 is a Progressive Web App (PWA), yes?
I would be glad to here that this is true.

If v4.0 is a PWA, do we continue to use Elementor or another WordPress theme? page-builder?
Please clarify how we can do our own changes to WPLMS:
    (a) Templates?
    (b) Pages?
    (c) Posts?

Does the current Mobile App function with the new v4.0 of WPLMS?

I like what you are doing but need to know the above (and more) so I can plan my own development, course deployments and mobile app… Please provide details. Thank you.
